The land of Nando

Greetings everyone!
As Nando (the Peruvian who is staying with my parents in the states) is sitting in my room chatting on my computer, I am sitting in his house in with his parents chatting on his computer. What a small world we have. I am in Piura and once again it is hot. It´s got to be well past midnight and it hasn´t really cooled off yet--I like it though. Things have been going great--took a nice little trip to Tumbes which is close to the border with Ecuador and got to see some mangrove swamps, hold a crocodile farm in a crocodile farm, and a visit a national reserve which was very beautiful--had fresh coconut, oranges and grapefruit straight off the trees and I got eaten by a million mosquitos even though I had repellent on (fun stuff). There we stayed the night in a little pueblo of 125 families with the mayor's family, in his house partly which had a tv with cable but was partly made of sticks (crazy).
It was after that that we spent an awesome four days at the beach being pretty lazy but learning a lot. I have come to love the north, the people, the beautiful beaches, the heat, the food-- chifles (fried salty banana chips) and fresh ceviche (raw fish and other seafood "cooked" in lime juice), it´s fun.Kevin´s teaching me how to play the quena (a flute like instrument) so I can wow you guys with my newly discovered musical talents when I get home--jaja really there is no new talent, it´s just that the quena is pretty easy to play and so it´s not to hard but I´ll try to wow you anyways.
Ok, write more later but I really want to get some of those pictures up that I have been promising. They are all random and in not particular order--sorry!
Enjoy and take care! Hope everyone had a great Vday!

Jajaja I don´t remember if I wrote about the story of the Peruvian dog but here is a picture of it. If I didn´t I will later because it is super funny. Poor thing, scrawny with a blonde mowhawk-- it´s almost as bad as when I was little and had a mullet (jeje my mom still insists that is was cute) so I know how the poor thing feels. I couldn´t help but laugh though.

A picture from when my fam and I went to the beach in Camana and we went to a nicer beach an hourish on a dirt road that was really pretty.

Lukita, Mari y Yo all festive for Christmas Eve
Jajaja---so this is how birthdays go. You sing in Spanish and English and if there are exchangers in a ton of languages and then its tradition after the candles to take a bit of the cake....
...... it´s also tradition to shove the persons face in the cake.
I have whitnessed this three times so far and it gets funnier everytime--I love it. I have been responsible for one messy face and so all you back in the states better watch out on your birthdays and make sure I´m not standing near by ;)
The wonderful Anika and I getting ready for a Christmas Party--we went shopping in a market and bought our lovely hats together
A foto of Kimmy with the beautiful red rooftops of Cusco in the background.

This was after day number two in Machu Picchu--the picture isnt much but I´m standing next to the sign that says I just made it to 4200m, the highest point on the trail and boy was I ever happy to see that sign. I never want to climb stairs again in my life.

Some ruins in the majestic Machu Picchu.

All is green and beautiful up there--the mountain on the right is the actual Machu Picchu mountain and it the rainbow flag of Cusco flying on top.

This is after I hiked to the top of Huayna Picchu--it was crazy high up there and below inbetween my fingers are the ruins of Machu Picchu.

Yo, Pablo (Argentinian from our group) and Kimmy

My wonderful fam in Arequipa after Nati´s baptism. Starting on the left is Marita (godmother), Jespy (Cathy my sister´s husband--Sweedish), Cathy (lives in Sweden), Nati, Luka, Yo, Susy and Rebecca (from the US but has spent the majority of here life here in Peru and is more Peruvian than American and a really good friend of the family.)

K, that´s all for now, there are a bunch more, especially of Machu, but it´s late and so I´m gonna run.

Miss you all!!! MWAH!
